For years, our food program has been almost entirely mobile. We show up where families are, week after week, across San Diego. Now we have a food rescue hub which serves as a dedicated space where we receive donated food, store fresh items rescued from grocery stores, and bring volunteers together to sort and pack grocery bags for the families we serve.

We’re outfitting our food hub with the intention of expanding what we can receive, hold, and deliver. We’re adding heavy-duty shelving to maximize what we can keep on hand, industrial carts so food can move efficiently between floors, and additional refrigeration and freezer units so we can accept more fresh and perishable items rescued directly from grocery stores.

Our goal is $20,000 to complete this space and equip it with the shelving, carts, refrigeration, and storage needed to maximize its impact.

More cold storage means more fresh produce, more dairy, more protein. These are the kinds of items that make the biggest difference for a family’s table, and the hardest to come by through traditional food assistance.

The need in San Diego hasn’t slowed down and neither have we. Expanding our infrastructure means we get to say yes more often, to more families, with more of what they actually need!
